AbstractDraper Laboratory assembled a brainstorming team to address some of the key challenges associated with understanding and monitoring Global Climate Change (GCC) as well as to identify some technologies that offer promise of significant improvements in the state of the art. This presentation starts out by identifying some of the key challenges facing climatologists, some insufficiently addressed GCC monitoring issues, and key sensor shortfalls. It then provides recommendations for attention in the areas of GCC data calibration, comprehensive database integration, and advance mission scheduling/observation coordination tools that will enable more accurate and comprehensive assessment of the GCC problem. Finally atmospheric monitoring methods using occultation and ground ice/water status monitoring methods using gravity science are discussed as new and effective means of GCC monitoring.
