AbstractThe AIAA Public Policy Committee (PPC) and Technical Activities Committee (TAC) formulated a list of questions regarding a key government aerospace polices that impact on the interests of AIAA members. These questions were submitted to the McCain and Obama campaigns. Background on each of the questions was also prepared so the questions, background and responses could all be printed in Aerospace America (AA) to provide background to AIAA members on the candidate positions before the election. However, only the questions, not the background material, were provided to the candidates so that their positions in response to the questions would be their own rather than being based on excerpts from the AIAA-drafted background material. In the end, the AIAA public policy staff had to collect the candidates’ recently published positions relevant to aerospace to compile the policy position information that was responsive to the AIAA questions. These results have now been distributed as inserts to the October 2008 AA issue, with the candidate positions with respect to each of the AIAA questions printed in parallel to each other. Material from that AA insert was digested to enable a summary to be presented in this briefing.
