AbstractThis talk which is titled “Human Side of Space Exploration and Habitation” is a summary of a recently book chapter that was co-authored by Dava Newman, Nicolas Meirhaeghe, Joanna Zhang, and Larissa Zhou and published in 2021 in the 5th Edition of the Handbook of Human Factors and Ergonomics, edited by Gavriel Salvendy and Waldemar Karwowski. The presentation will cover human-centric topics related to space exploration such as spaceflight unique factors, environmental factors, physiological adaptation and psychosocial effects, functional integration and habit ability, pilot-vehicle integration, countermeasure systems and technologies, and astronaut and spaceflight participants.
