AbstractThe Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department has 22 faculty, 460
undergraduate students and 100 graduate students. The three newest faculty
members are Robert Liebeck, Satya Atluri and Marc Madou. Liebeck teaches aerodynamics, aircraft performance, and aircraft design. He is also a
full-time employee of Boeing, where he leads the design of the blended-wing
aircraft. Atluri is an expert in computational mechanics. Madou is an
expert in micro-electric mechanical systems. The Department's disciplinary
thrusts are (i) continuum mechanics, (ii) power, propulsion and
environment, (iii) micro/nano-mechanics, and (iv) systems and design. There
is also an emerging interdisciplinary thrust in aerospace systems.
