AbstractAurora Flight Sciences is growing! The Cambridge office has doubled in size (from 75 to 150 people) since our acquisition by Boeing last November. We will be getting a new office in Kendall Square, in MIT’s new ‘Gateway’ building, which will be called the Boeing Aerospace & Autonomy Center. Among Aurora’s many exciting prototype flight programs, I covered two in this talk. The first is the Modular Intercept Drone Avionics Set (MIDAS), which is a laser-and-binocular camera system for small UAS that integrates with the Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (CRAM) radar system. This system began flight test this fall and was able to track and fire on both stationary and moving DJI drones. The second project I covered was AACUS, which has been ongoing for 6 years. The AACUS Enabled UH-1 helicopter (AEH-1) recently participated in operations at the Marine’s Integrated Test Exercise (ITX). The system performed flawlessly and proved the concept of unmanned resupply by integrating seamlessly with the ITX maneuvers. AACUS performed a variety of missions, including Assault Support, Simulated CASEVAC, Cargo sustainment flights, Refueling at a Forwarding Arming and Refueling Point, and Rendezvoused with “leader follower” unmanned ground vehicle. The AEH-1 also landed safely in brown-out landing conditions.
