Abstract	Title: A short talk in memory of Gary J. Balas Abstract: Gary J. Balas passed away on November 12, 2015. He was a leader in the field of robust control This short talk briefly overviewed his contributions to applications, numerical methods, and robust control. Gary’s impact extended beyond these technical contributions. He supported many activities throughout the controls community including the ACGSC meetings. He was also a mentor to numerous students/visitors as well as a collaborator with many researchers across the globe. He enjoyed the collaborations and friendships of the controls community. He unfortunately left us too soon but his energetic spirit will remain with us.
